Samās Perspective (1st Time Buyer)
š Status Update: Still grinding on the Series 65. I donāt know for sure if Iāll pass, but Iām putting in the work because the goal is to open up more options, create new opportunities, and see what Iām capable of.
On the business buying side, Iāve been thinking a lot about how social media makes this path seem way easier than it actually is. Youāll see someone say, āJust buy an HVAC business and youāre set.ā Or one I saw this week:
āThereās so much money out there, you just have to go get it.ā
Yeah, no kidding, brother. Thatās literally why Iām here.
The reality is, this stuff is not easy. Finding a business to buy isnāt glamorous. Itās full of spreadsheets, dead-end calls, flaky sellers, red flags, inflated numbers, and waiting around for info that might never come. But I keep showing up because I know exactly why Iām doing this.
My why is simple. I want to build a life where my wife doesnāt have to work unless she wants to. Thatās the goal. So if youāre in this too, trying to figure it all out, donāt get distracted by the highlight reels. Take a step back, refocus, and keep going. The payoff comes later, not on the first try.
Tylerās Perspective (Experienced Buyer)
š Status Update: One thing we havenāt talked much aboutābut that hit me this weekendāis just how important location is when looking for a small business to buy.
Why does location matter so much? Because every business depends on its customer base, and customers arenāt evenly distributed. Some areas of the U.S. have more swimming pools (hello, pool service businesses), others have higher concentrations of pet owners (great for pet grooming or boarding), and rural areas might support agricultural equipment rentals, while urban markets might be better for retail or logistics.
Itās not an exact science, but tools like the U.S. Census Bureau or your local Chamber of Commerce can help you dig into the age, income, and lifestyle of local populationsāand how that matches the business model.
Bottom line: donāt just fall in love with the businessāfall in love with where it is. A good business in the right place can become a great investment.

š” Cool Business Idea: text
Small business owners donāt need another crisis.

This weekās Cool Business Idea is Check Yo Stuff ā a lightweight web app that helps small businesses and homeowners track basic maintenance before stuff breaks.

Get pre-built checklists and reminder timelines
Assign tasks to team members or contractors
Upload receipts, warranties, and manuals
Get reminders before it breaks
Check before you wreck.

šÆ Why This Is a Good Idea to Start
Preventative maintenance is a huge blind spot for small business owners, landlords, and even short-term rental operators.
They want to stay on top of it, but thereās no simple tool built just for them.
This isnāt about AI. Itās about not forgetting to replace the thing that ruins your day when it breaks.
Itās boring. Itās brilliant. Itās buildable.
And if you launch it, youāll help people avoid expensive screwups ā which theyāre more than happy to pay for.
