🦆 Canada Goose Control Business making $170k/yr!

Welcome Back to The Corporate Pivot!
Ever feel like the weekend lasts about five minutes, but the workweek stretches on for eternity? One second, you’re clocking out on Friday, and the next, you’re back at your desk pretending to care about “leveraging cross-functional synergies.”
If you’ve ever wondered if there’s another way, there is. Owning or starting a business is one of the few ways to break free before 65. It’s not easy, but at least you’re building something for yourself—not just another deck for someone else’s meeting.
This is The Corporate Pivot—where we share the real lessons, wins, and stumbles from making the jump. Stick around. It beats refreshing your inbox, hoping that urgent email just disappears.
Here’s what we have for you today:
Pivot Perspectives: Sam talks about the best business bank accounts, comparing fees, features, and why online banks like Relay and Mercury stand out. Tyler talks about uncovering a surprising business opportunity in home services after initially dismissing the industry as too risky. | Acquisition Alerts:
| Bare Minimum Bulletin: Vinny talks about dodging taxes (satirically, of course), questioning why he owes money to "some lady named IRS," and dealing with gluten-free coworkers in the most unhinged ways possible. |
Cool Business Idea:
Bar prep courses cost thousands, but most students say they’re outdated and ineffective. ⚖️💸
What if AI could create a personalized, smarter way to study—for a fraction of the cost?

Confusing Corporate Sayings:
"Let’s open up the kimono and see what’s inside."
Professional Translation:
“They want full transparency on the project details.”
Corporate Pivot Translation:
“I don’t know what you’re trying to say, but it sounds like I’m reporting you to HR.”

Sam’s Perspective (1st Time Buyer)
🆕 Status Update: This week, I spent some time researching business bank accounts, and it turns out not all are created equal. A lot of big banks have hidden fees, low transaction limits, or just make simple things—like sending a wire—more of a hassle than they should be. For small business owners, Relay and Mercury stood out as solid options. Relay makes managing multiple accounts easy (great for Profit First setups), and Mercury has no fees, even for wires. If you need in-person banking, Chase is a solid bet, especially since they don’t charge for wires if you upgrade to a higher-tier account. If you’re starting a business or switching accounts, it’s worth looking beyond just your local bank—some of these online options make things way smoother.
Tyler’s Perspective (Experienced Buyer)
🆕 Status Update: Last time, we talked about expanding my home services business. In addition to that—and as a great reminder to stay focused without closing yourself off to new opportunities—we’re now exploring the possibility of acquiring a business in a completely new home services niche.
At first, I had written off this industry due to the usual horror stories, but after meeting someone who successfully built a company in this space, I started asking questions and digging deeper. Turns out, there’s a unique opportunity here. With the owner’s expertise, we may have a few ways to get involved. Moral of the story? Always check in with your network—you never know when a conversation might lead to something you never even considered.

Vinny’s Bare Minimum Bulletin

With February coming to an end, we can all get excited about the most important month yet... MARCH. Its March Madness time and it's the last time I can take a major loss for my "2024" taxes. Now, I thought there was some COVID rule where we didn't have to pay taxes anymore, but some lady named IRS keeps reaching out telling me I OWE her money. I have never met this IRS girl and I'll be damned if she's going to extort me!

Yea, I know it's a surprise to you that I even know that we have to "pay" taxes. Well, I think its B.S. Why should I have to pay anything, not like they need to fund important stuff like schools or emergency services... They said if I don't pay up they are going to "garnish" my wages.... Garnish is for food, and I'm not a chef.
❓Question time: Your annoying coworker insists on going to a gluten free restaurant because they are gluten free, do you:
Take them to a brewery and explain that the double hopped IPA doesn't have gluten?
Take them to a nice restaurant. Go to the bathroom at the end, stick them with the bill... escape through the bathroom window... drive to work without them. Then you tell your boss that you haven't seen them in hours?
Talk to your therapist about it since you WFH ALONE on your single owner operated business and realize that YOU are the annoying coworker?
If you aren't sure which one is correct that’s because you probably have a good head on your shoulders and would accommodate like a professional, but that doesn’t make for a funny newsletter…
